Vertebrae of the Month - C5
"The nervous system controls and coordinates all organs and structures of the human body"
Gray's Anatomy, 29th Ed., Pg. 4
Misalignment of the spinal vertebrae, also known as subluxations, and dysfunctional discs can pinch nerves and cause irritation to the nervous system affecting the structures and organs of the body.
A subluxation in your spine actually causes dysfunction in other areas of you body. If you think about it, all of your nerves travel down the spinal column. This is what helps our brain make the rest of our body work. If there is an issue with the road in which our nerves travel it makes sense it's going to affect the areas it branches off to.
As you can see we're talking about the C5 vertebrae in this post and that is located in your cervical spine, also known as the neck area. Areas supplied by the nerves in the C5 vertebra are: Vocal Cords, Neck Glands and the Pharynx.
When the C5 is having an issue we see a lot of the following issues with our patients:
*Laryngitis
*Hoarseness
* Throat conditions such as sore throat or quinsy (Inflammation of the throat, especially an abscess int he region of the tonsils)
*Neck Pain
*Headaches
