Does This Make Me Taller?
Does this make me taller? Can this make me taller? I'm going to be 2 inches taller when I leave here, right?
One of the top questions we receive at the clinic when it comes to decompression. Of course all of these people know that we can't make them taller, because if that were the case we'd probably be jumping all over that for ourselves! Note - none of us have grown since using the decompression machine. No matter how much we'd like to. ;-)
In all seriousness, decompression has been one of the greatest service we're able to offer our patients now. However, a lot of people don't really understand how it works. This is what we're here for - this post will explain to you a little better how this "stretch table" works and how it can help you.
The decompression machine is a table in which you lay on and we strap you in in way that the machine will apply negative pressure (stretching) on the disc bulge or herniation. This cases the disc to pull in the herniation causing an increase of blood flow. This allows the body to do what it does best and naturally kick in it's fibroblastic response to heal the injury and re-hydrate the disc. This negative pressure also increases the opening of the lateral canal which is the space where nerves exit the spinal column. This helps to enhance the production of collagen and can improve conversion of new tissue to stronger tissue. This all helps to reduce re-injury and dysfunction.
So, What Conditions Can Be Treated By Spinal Decompression?
- Disc Bulge
- Sciatica
- Degenerative Disc Disease
- Chronic low back pain
- Osteoarthritis
- Cervical/Lumbar radiculopathy
- Spinal Segmental dysfunction
- Scoliosis
- Muscle Tightness/Spasm
- Headaches
- Uncomplicated Whiplash
- Spinal Nerve Root Impingement
- Forward head posture
What is the Commitment?
Dr. Casey typically likes to see treatment plans of 12-24 visits. This is based on the severity of chronicity of your problem. In the beginning of your care with decompression therapy you would be seen 3 times a week and then less frequent as needed. Each plan and patient is slightly different and based on your need. Along with decompression Dr. Casey suggests that you also be adjusted with each therapy session. The more compliant you are with the recommendations the better your results will be. We are understanding and know that sometimes schedules will not allow for the perfect treatment plan, but we are very flexible and can usually accommodate you. After 12 visits we'll evaluate how you've done and what your progress is.
What is the cost?
Unfortunately decompression is not currently a billable therapy through insurance companies. Therefore this means that it is something we do require payment for up front and cannot be submitted to your insurance company. We do offer packages of 12 or 24 visits with discounts from 12-20% off for your convince. Packages can be used within one calendar year. If you would like to discuss this further we are having an informational meeting September 20th, 2016 at 5pm. Otherwise please call our office at 715-253-2239.
